Title: Cyberbully
author/director: Charles Binamé
Text type: Movie
Date finished:27th March 2017
Summary
This film is about a girl who is cyber bullied and verbally bullied by a group of girls from her school. Rumours begin to spread about her and the boy she had liked for ages stopped liking her because of these rumours and her friends turned on her. This amazing film shows us how cruel teenagers can be these days.
A character i related to was Taylor Hillridge. I related to her because like her I have felt weak and like i have no one. In the film her friends turn on her ‘I don’t know why everyone hates me so much. Or maybe or do because now i hate me too.” This shows that Taylor is feeling alone and weak. This gives us a real understanding as to how she is feeling. I relate to this because I have felt confused as to why someone may have turned on me and why i felt so alone and like it was just me against the world. I think that society has got to the point where everyone hides behind the screen because they feel a sense of power, like no one or nothing can stop them. I believe this is because they are in there own ‘virtual reality’ they don’t see what damage they are doing until it’s too late. This is because deep down we are afraid of who we are and what we are becoming, everyone's jumping on bandwagons to ‘fit in’ but they don’t see what the damage is doing.
This Movie really gave me an insight to the way the teenagers of society don’t think before they act. This gave me an insight because the whole movie is based around how cyber bullying can honestly push people to their limits without the people behind the bullying realising.
This shows me that people think they are so powerful when they aren’t face to face with the victim they are targeting. The movie also gave me insight to how cruel people can become because of one mistake that you may have made. This movie gives a really good understanding that no matter how long you’ve been friends with someone for and no matter how much you thought they were you friend they can turn instantly and they can become quite cruel. An example of this in the movie is when Cheyenne tells Taylor she doesn't want to be seen with her around school anymore, even though they have been best of friends since preschool. This is a really big problem in society because these days a lot of people can your best of friends but as soon as you make one mistake they don’t want anything to do with you.
I don’t think teenagers these days see how much damage they are doing behind the screens of their phone. This film brings a lot of emotions to me because it really shows you that this generation is become really careless. The generation these days show that if you make one mistake it defines who you are, one mistake defines what you are. When I believe that one mistake doesn’t define who you are, everyone makes mistakes and no one is perfect.
Caitlin, this is a really insightful response. I love the way you have analysed the teenage way of thinking and given thoughtful reasons for why they act the way they do. Ensure that you have two quotes (or specific examples) in your Log - one for each paragraph.
